Hi Support and All, Had a problem with Windows Update not being able to download new Updates since last updated, so I reformatted and reinstalled Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit. I was able to download the updates using Windows Updates. Then I installed Service Pack 1 and was required to install the Windows Update Agent 7.6.7600.300. Not looking to upgrade this copy of Windows 7 to Windows 10, because I already have Windows 10 installed. I only want Windows 7 for Beta Testing and helping others still with Windows 7 installed. I have some 145 Updates to be downloaded and installed from Windows Update.
Keeps showing Checking for updates. No Error Messages, including in the Event Viewer.
I could reformat and reinstall again, but I feel I would have the exact problem again. Has Microsoft stopped Windows 7 Updates for new copies of Windows 7 reformatted and reinstalled? Please provide more information to enable your problem to be diagnosed. Please restart your computer and allow 20 minutes for the system to run before uploading information. When examining Event Viewer log files many, not all, problems show in the period immediately after the computer has been booted. Please provide a copy of your System Information file.
Type System Information in the Search Box above the start Button and press the ENTER key (alternative is Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Information). It helps to avoid confusion if you remove any earlier copies of the log files from your OneDrive. To access the System log select Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer, from the list in the left side of the window expand Windows Logs and select System.
Place the cursor on System, select Action from the Menu and Save All Events as (the default evtx file type) and give the file a name. Do not provide filtered files. Do not place the cursor in the list of reports before selecting Action from the menu. Do not clear logs whilst you have a continuing problem. For a clean install of Windows 7 get these three updates and as Alexander has indicated The last one has the same title as the 1st apart from the date. It may be Microsoft as usual not maintaining updates properly but I include both because at the end of the last one it states it does not replace any previous updates.
In principle that means that both are required. Download and save all three updates onto a key. Disconnect the computer from the internet during setup and run the three updates standalone in numerical order. Then connect to the internet.
I forgot to mention. Watch out for Update KB3035583, on the 1st pass should be an optional update so could be ignored but becomes recommended. This is the update that installs the GWX (Get Windows 10) utility and can be a bit of a pain to remove cleanly. Apart from the executable it drops all sorts of bits in Windows including several scheduled tasks. If you can stop it all the better but needs to be checked for because it has been reported to resurrect itself despite being hidden.
