Miami Nights 2 harks from one of Gameloft’s most successful series. It began with New York Nights back in 2005, but since then it’s spread over the globe to Paris and Miami. The gameplay remains familiar though – you’re a lone person in a big city, just trying to get by, make friends, find love and hopefully a whole lotta cash. So, it’s a lifestyle sim and as such you also have to take care of yourself. Miami Nights 2 sets you up with an apartment, but you need to work out when you need to sleep, eat and wash. Plus, since you can choose what your character says to other people in Miami, if you’re not nice you may find yourself out in the cold.
It’s far less hardcore than it sounds though. The game’s pretty clear about when you need to do these basic tasks, and other than that Miami Nights 2 plays out more like an adventure game than a session with The Sims.
Compared to its predecessors, Miami Nights 2 has cut down your conversational skills. So, you can’t get on with everyone you meet just by finding out and picking the subjects they like. Relentlessly try to break out of the structure Miami Nights 2 sets out for you any you probably won’t have a great time, but give into it and take in the pretty sights of the attractively cartoony Miami offered to you and the comic moments within it and you’ll have a blast. It’s not as pared-down as your average adventure at any rate. You’ll generally have a couple of different quests on the go at any one point, meaning there’s normally a choice of different things to be getting on with. Plus, and this feature is a real bonus, tap on the 0 key and arrows will pop up showing you where your next objective is. Miami Nights 2 doesn’t stray too far from the roads its predecessors like Paris Nights and New York Nights went down, but if you’re after more of the same, you can’t go far wrong here.
